A COOKIE MONSTER 2nd BIRTHDAY PARTY

I chose a Cookie Monster themed birthday party for Baker, for two reasons: he's a sweet little monster and he loves cookies.

PARTY DETAILS:

This year I took the approach of 'Back to Basics' with a little more store bought and a little less handcrafted. This was even before I read, the 2015 Party Trends according to Tara Berger of One Stylish Party.

Also, I reused some existing decorations I owned such as the tissue poms poms from Brian's birthday dinner; party lanterns from my baby shower; and the birthday pennant banner from Baker's 1st birthday.

The balloons with the exception of the "2" mylar balloon, I ordered from my local grocery store, kept it one color, and simply left them in the family room grouped together. I lucked out with the goodie bags from Target's dollar spot, and since we had a few older kids I personalized their bags according to their age and gender. But most of his guests were toddlers, for the reason of the foam puzzle and book.

Most of the decorations came from Party City and with some I had to rework. For instance, Cookie Monster holding cookies is actually holding a number one. But I covered it up with cookie images that I cut out from Back to Nature's chocolate chip cookie box. You can't even tell the difference! A few of the other decorations was the entire Sesame Street cast; I picked out Cookie Monster for the party.

The glittered 'Happy Birthday Baker' poster on the fireplace mantel came from his teacher's at daycare. Isn't that sweet?! Then I dressed it up with streamers and tissue paper confetti.

The custom ordered, 4-layer cookies n' cream filled 8" round cake coated with crushed chocolate chip cookies came from Sweetness Bakery, along with the assorted cupcakes. Elva, the owner, who founded the new local bakery, was such a pleasure to work with. I found the cake topper online, a perfect complement to the cake and a keepsake!

The kids and adults enjoyed a game of "Face the Cookie" after being stuffed with Mexican food for the adults from Tacodeli and pizza for the kids from Pour House Pints & Pies.

In the end it was a "Om nom nom nom" kind of evening for my very own cookie monster and our guests.
