I'm going to preface this by saying, I'm not a doctor or anything close to being a member of the medical field. What I share with you all, is simply my experience. I'm not advocating one thing or the other. Please before you do anything consult a medical professional.

My blood pressure is down. On August 7, my blood pressure was 151/95. My general practitioner (GP) gave me three weeks of high blood pressure medicine and asked me to return in three weeks. Here's the deal, I only took the medicine for one week, the first week of the three weeks. I'm stubborn I tell you. Downright stubborn.

On August 27, around noon, when she took my blood pressure it read 134/83, that morning it was 128/81. Then, she said, "I take it the medicine is working for you." I replied, "Honestly, I haven't taken it in two weeks, I only took it the first week." Naturally, she wanted to know what I changed.

I told her on August 1, we started Paleo (no dairy, grains, processed foods, sugar, legumes, starches and alcohol). I also shared with her that I noticed that I took out all fried foods and lowered my salt intake. Anything fried that I did have, I fried at home in coconut oil.

Of course, she was skeptical about it all, she finally said, "I don't know what it is you're doing, but keep doing it. Keep monitoring your blood pressure at home, I'll see you in a month."

I wish I could say that for the month of August I did the #Whole30 but I didn't, I got pretty close. I cheated on three occasions with alcohol and once with hummus. In social situations, it's really hard to not indulge in a cocktail or glass of wine, at least it was gluten-free. Besides last night on 60 Minutes, a study from california on elderly people in their 90s, said that those that consumed a "moderate" amount of alcohol lived longer than those that didn't.

I'm still not sure if Paleo is for me. I only lost three pounds. I even increased my workout, but I know I ate more meat and poultry during this time. My eczema is under control. Yay! However, I'm back on my Adderall, which is one of the reasons I stopped taking the blood pressure medicine. For now, I'm happy that my blood pressure is down and I'll continue to monitor it.
